Le tribunal administratif de Bordeaux a recently announced its decision to reject the appeal filed after the municipal elections in Val-de-Louyre-et-Caudeau, a commune in Dordogne. This dispute began when an anonymous individual submitted a request for annulment of the election results.
Almost two months post the first round of municipal elections, the administrative court deemed the challenge unfounded. A mere two votes separated the newly elected mayor, Clément Bijou (613 votes), from the former mayor, Philippe Ducène (611 votes).
Un recours déposé par un membre du bureau de vote
The appeal came from a member of the voting bureau who chose to remain unnamed. While not affiliated with either candidate, this individual claimed to have supported the defeated incumbent. He argued that a delegate from Bijou's list had allegedly replaced an election assistant at the polling station, interacted with some voters in Dutch, and accompanied certain individuals to the voting booth. However, the tribunal, in its ruling on May 12, concluded that there was no evidence that the delegate had taken the place of an assistant or that he had helped voters to the voting booth.
In light of the court’s decision, Mayor Clément Bijou expressed relief and satisfaction, calling this outcome a much-welcomed end to a period of uncertainty for both him and the residents of the commune. As he stated, "We are pleased today, primarily for the residents, that this matter is closed and clarity has been restored." His victory signals a new chapter for Val-de-Louyre-et-Caudeau, as the community can now move forward without the shadow of contestation looming over them.
